If you don't know the exact time of birth, put in the nearest time that you know. At least it will generate a birth chart to which you can refer as you read along. If you just know the birth date but do not know the birth time at all, one of the options will be to put in 12.00 noon of your birth date in order to produce a birth chart just for the purpose of study or for the aim of setting a rough estimate.
After you are well-versed in Bazi analysis, even not having the time of birth will be able to tell a lot of information about someone's fate, inherent traits, personality and destiny. Nonetheless, knowing the time of birth, to the minutes, will left nothing to chance and provide a very accurate analysis.

Astrology does believes that two people born at the same time in exactly the same location will have more or less the same life, similar habits and behavior, similar outlook towards life events and towards other people, similar interests and aspirations.
Major life events that happen to them will also be the same. The only difference will be their levels of achievement and their lasting impact on the world. The person born to the family with more prominence and higher economic and social stature, basically starting from a higher ground, will naturally end up higher. The same amount of money may be considered by one person as large and significant, but by another as just ordinary. Also, a person that is a leader of a small country cannot have as much impact as another with the same birth chart that leads a large country. To further explain this, I will use the seed as a metaphor. Let say if two seeds germinated on the same day and time. However, they are in two different locations. One in a tropical region of the world where there is much sunshine and rainfall, while the other one is in the North Pole, very clearly, the rate and manner they grow will be completely different. Moreover, even if two seeds planted at the same time at the same location may grow differently. In fact, there are many people who are born at the same day and time, such as twins. Some may have similar life development, while others could be different due to external and psychological factors. Life is not a stand alone entity. We are consistently interacting with environmental factors and relationships that will shape the outcome of our lives. Therefore, a person born in Singapore today, at this time, will turn out to have a very different life development from someone who is born today in Africa. Therefore, an experienced astrologer will take into account factors, such as the location the person was in, and other relevant information, in other to generate and fine tune a astrological reading. Furthermore, a person's internal or psychological factors such as temperament, will power, choice and attitude towards life will also greatly influence the outcome of our destiny. In Chinese astrology, there is a saying there goes: 一命二运三风水,四积阴德五读书,六名七相八敬神, 九交贵人十养生 To translate, this means that one's life development is influenced by the following factors: 1) One's fate (the basic structure or nature of the birth-chart) 2) One's life trend (which will change from one period to another, or from year to year) 3) One's environment (Feng-Shui, or Geomancy) 4) One's Karma (good merits vs bad merits, reaping what one's sow, cause and effect...etc) 5) One's knowledge (knowledge is power, and humans are the only living beings bestowed with this gift, and therefore we have the power to shape our destiny) 6) One's name (a name is a sound which carries with it vibrational energy and subconscious message, which will influence our energy field and psyche, which eventually influence our behaviors and attitude, that very often influenced the outcome of our lives) 7) One's appearance (how a person dressed or groomed himself/herself will send a different message to those he/she comes into contact with) 8) One's religious belief (religious beliefs have the power to guide a person's moral values and actions. And if a person is upright due to religious beliefs, chances are he will avoid wrongdoings that will cause him troubles, teach him right methods to handle life issues, for instance, and will help him to be protected and blessed by the deities) 9) One's relationships (family, spouse, children, colleagues, boss, friends, teachers...etc who influence our lives) 10) One's health (health is the greatest wealth, and basically no one can enjoy life without having good physical health) Therefore, two lives born with the same birth date and time may not turn out to have absolutely same development and outcome. I have seen clients whose life outcomes would have been terrible and disastrous based on their birth charts, but because of the good deeds that they have carried out, or because of a change in Feng Shui, their Karma is changed and the problems destined to happen were being lessen. Therefore, although many things in our lives are predestined, if we choose to do good, new karma can always be created, which will pave the way for a better destiny to happen in our future. The most important pillar is the day pillar, or daymaster.
The daymaster represents you, your spirit and your qi. The animal sign or earthly stem below your daymaster represents your marriage/spouse/partner. It will tell you the quality of your intimate relationships. The year pillar reveals your karma, your family background, your ancestors, your grandparents, and the society in which you live. It also reveals your level of career achievement. The month pillar, also called the parents pillar, reveals your early childhood and your relationship with your parents and children. The hour pillar, also called the children pillar, reveals your career, your relationships with your children, and old age. After evaluating the element harmonies and clashes in the pillars, the next important step is to look at the compatibility between the branches, or animal signs (earthly stems), in the chart. Are they compatible, in opposition, conflicted, or enhanced? Do the animal signs (earthly stems) form any particular pattern? One of the major factors in deciding the strength of the daymaster is by looking at the month in which someone is born in. Depending on the month (season) in which someone is born, the daymaster element will be rated as strong or weak. This has nothing to do with the strength or weakness of character. At the same time, other elements presented in the chart must also be taken into consideration when gauging the strength of the daymaster. These will be further discussed in the following lessons. In certain months (seasons), some elements will be strong and others weak. For instance, winter is strong in the water elements, when summer is strong in the fire elements. Elements that are weak become the lucky elements when supplemented. For example, someone born of a daymaster of the fire element that is weak will be supplemented when he is born in summer, which is a favorable sign). In most cases, if one element is weak in a chart, when supplemented, is most desirable. And what is strong (overpowering), or out of balance, is least desirable, and should be minimized. In Chinese metaphysics, whether it is feng shui, traditional Chinese medicine, or the four pillars of destiny, when we talk about seasons and five elements we are talking about universal energy, both tangible and intangible. When we talk about strength and weakness of daymasters, therefore, we are not talking about local climate. When it is said that someone is born in the summer season, it means they were born in a month when the universal elemental energy of Fire and Earth was strong. It has nothing to do with the actual locale of the birth. If your daymaster element is Wood, it is strongest if you were born in the spring, and weakest in the fall. If your daymaster element is Fire, it is strongest if you were born in the summer, and weakest in the winter. If your daymaster element is Earth, it is strongest if you were born between seasons or during late summer, and weakest during the winter-spring transition. If your daymaster element is Metal, it is strongest if you were born in the fall, and weakest during the spring. If your daymaster element is Water, it is strongest if you were born in the winter, and weakest during the summer. With the help of the four pillars chart, we can examine and analyze our inherent strengths and weaknesses, and set our life sails to catch the wind in just the right direction. Once a Bazi birth chart is plotted, the four pillars are examined for several important features. Some of the questions an astrologer will ask are as follows: Are the pillar elements and signs within your chart harmonious with one another? Is there a certain element in the pillar that is supported or destroyed by any of the other elements? Are any of the five elements too "heavy" or too "light" in your chart? Is there an element that is absent? There are many website, mobile phone apps and softwares available on the internet that can help you plot a bazi birth chart. For example: http://bazi-calculator.com/ is a site that offers a comprehensive Bazi chart plotting. You may explore other means that you are most comfortable with as a beginner. In future lessons, methods on how to plot a Bazi chart manually will be discussed in details. The first and most important aspect of any chart is the balance of the elements contained within each pillar. The Chinese use various "cures" for elemental imbalances. If an element is light or weakened in a birth chart, that element becomes lucky when supplemented. If an element is heavy or overpowering the others in a birth chart, that element becomes unlucky and should be minimized. T his is an important aspect of this art which, with practice, will become a revealing window into your destiny. The various remedies for each elemental imbalance will be addressed further in the following lessons.  There are four pillars in the Ba Zi chart. Each pillar has an animal sign branch at the bottom and one of the five element stems (in either yin or yang expression) on the top.
The first pillar is calculated on the year of birth, so it is called the year pillar. The second pillar is calculated on the month of birth, so it is called the month pillar. The third pillar is calculated on the day of birth, so it is called the day pillar (or "daymaster"). The fourth pillar is calculated on the hour of birth, so it is called the hour pillar. (It is important to adjust the time of birth to true local time-for example, if daylight saving time was in effect, this must be taken into account.) The year pillar is calculated using the Chinese solar year calendar (rather than the Chinese lunar calendar, which begins anywhere from mid-January to mid-February on a different date each year), which is based on the return of the sun and the subsequent cycles of the sun's orbit. The Chinese solar year begins on February 4 or 5, so if you were born in January in 1959, you would do your year pillar calculations based on 1958, an Earth Dog year. The four pillars can show family background; relationship with parents, grandparents, children; marriage and romances; and relationships with bosses, peers, partners, and subordinates. In each pillar, life qi combines, clashes, strengthens, weakens, assists, and controls in a complex tango of energies. |
